iButton Reader for Fleet Vehicles — 1-Wire Driver ID
What is an iButton Reader?
An iButton reader is a compact 1-Wire device that connects to compatible GPS trackers to enable driver identification across fleet vehicles. Each driver carries a small stainless steel iButton key — when touched to the reader, the GPS tracker logs the driver's unique 64-bit ID alongside every journey. This makes it easy to attribute mileage, hours, speed events, and route history to individual named drivers without manual log sheets or driver self-reporting.

How 1-Wire Driver ID Works
1-Wire is a serial communication protocol that transfers data over a single wire. Teltonika and Queclink GPS trackers include a dedicated 1-Wire input for this purpose. When a driver presents their iButton key, the tracker reads the unique ID and transmits it alongside every GPS position report. Your fleet management platform links that ID to a named driver profile, so every trip is attributed to the correct driver automatically — no manual input required.
Compatible GPS Trackers
Our iButton readers are compatible with the full range of Teltonika and Queclink GPS trackers that include a 1-Wire interface. This includes the for example the Teltonika FMB125, FMB130, FMC650, FMC130, FMC234, and the Queclink GV620MG, GV350MG, GV75MG and more. All use the standard 1-Wire yellow wire connection. iButton Reader vs PIN Keypad Driver ID
Both iButton and PIN keypad systems identify drivers at the start of each journey. An iButton uses a physical key fob the driver carries; our driver ID keypads allow a 4–8 digit PIN to be entered instead. PIN keypads are increasingly preferred in modern fleets — there is no physical key to lose or forget, and the keypad can act as a vehicle immobiliser, preventing the engine from starting until a valid PIN is entered. We supply both systems and can help you choose the right approach for your fleet.
